Congress High Command calls Himachal leaders to Delhi amid organisational crisis

SHIMLA/NEW DELHI, Aug 2: In a significant move to revive the ailing Himachal Pradesh Congress unit, party leader Rahul Gandhi has convened a crucial meeting of senior state leaders in New Delhi on August 4.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on key organisational matters, including the formation of a new Pradesh Congress Committee team, appointment of the next state Congress president, filling a vacant cabinet post, and fresh appointments in boards and corporations.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who arrived in the national capital on Thursday, will present his government’s report card and brief the central leadership on the devastation caused by the recent natural disasters in the hill state.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, HPCC working president and former Mandi MP Pratibha Singh, cabinet ministers, and former state Congress presidents have been invited to attend the meeting.
According to party insiders, the leadership is concerned over the absence of an active organisational structure in Himachal since November 2024, when the All India Congress Committee (AICC) dissolved the state unit.
Grassroots party activity has slowed, and there is mounting pressure to revitalise the party ahead of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections.
Sources within the HPCC said that Pratibha Singh has already reached Delhi and is likely to join other PCC chiefs for the national executive meet convened by Rahul Gandhi.
Insiders also suggest that the prolonged rift between key leaders may witness a thaw, with both camps realising the urgency to work together to strengthen the party unit. The AICC may announce the new state Congress president and a revamped executive committee following the meeting.
