JAMMU, Aug 31: Congress activists and farmers held protest near SDM office RS Pura today and demanded compensation for the farmers whose crop was damaged in rains and floods during 2015 and also benefit of reservation to all the villages falling within 6 kms from International Border.
Led by Ch Mohan Singh, vice president DCC Jammu Rural, the activists held strong protest in favour of their demands and later submitted a memorandum to the SDM, for the Lt Governor, J&K UT M K Sinha.
The demands projected in the memorandum included, compensation for the farmers of this border belt whose crops were damaged in rains and floods during 2015. They alleged that he government had conducted a survey and found 100 % crops damaged but till date no compesantion was provided to the farmers. They demanded release of compensation.
They further said that Government recently released a list of villages to provide reservation benefit within 6 kms of the IB but unfortunately many villages were left out. These left out villages should also be included.
They demanded early completion of SDM office complex and staff quarters at R S Pura on which the work was started about 7 years ago and till date not completed. They also demanded restoration of 4G Internet service in Jammu region before conduct of any NEET/JEE or any other online exam.
