Ramgarh, Oct 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President and former Minister Raman Bhalla on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of betraying the people and pushing Jammu and Kashmir into an “unprecedented political and economic crisis.”
Addressing a large gathering at Ramgarh town in Samba district, Bhalla said that despite holding power at both the Centre and in the Union Territory, the BJP has “failed miserably on all fronts, including governance, employment, peace, and development.” He alleged that the “common man is suffering silently” amid rising prices, unemployment, and growing insecurity among employees, while BJP leaders remain focused on “publicity and political drama.”
Bhalla was in Ramgarh to launch the Congress’s new public initiative, the ‘Vote Adhikar’ (Right to Vote) Signature Campaign, aimed at protecting democratic values and ensuring transparency in the electoral process. He said the campaign seeks to “safeguard the sanctity of the ballot” and resist “growing electoral manipulation and misuse of institutions.”
Criticizing the BJP-led administration for “gross negligence” towards the economy, Bhalla cited the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and August 26 Vaishno Devi landslides, saying both incidents exposed the government’s failure to revive tourism and ensure smooth pilgrimages.
Reiterating the Congress’s demand for immediate restoration of full statehood, Bhalla accused the BJP of backtracking on its promises. “Statehood is our constitutional right. The bureaucracy is unaccountable, and the voice of the common man is being suppressed,” he said.
He further alleged that the BJP has “mastered the art of propaganda” and “divided society for electoral gains,” while failing to deliver on development and employment.
The event, organized by former minister Yash Paul Kundal, saw participation from senior Congress leaders including Sanjeev Sharma (District President, Samba), Babal Gupta (Working President, Samba), and Vijay Choudhary (Ex-Sarpanch).
Bhalla announced that the ‘Vote Adhikar’ campaign will soon be extended to all districts and panchayats across Jammu and Kashmir.
