SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra today said the party will observe August 5, the day Article 370 was abrogated and Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded to two Union Territories six years ago, as a “Black Day” across all 20 districts of the region to intensify its agitation for the restoration of Statehood.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Karra said the ongoing outreach programme, which began on August 1, concluded today and marked another stage in their campaign for Statehood. “From August 9 to August 20, we will hold a chain hunger strike across the region. After that, our outreach programme will resume,” he said.
Karra asserted that the demand for full Statehood is the common aspiration of all sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir. “Every section has its own concerns – especially the business community – but the one issue where everyone is united is the demand for Statehood,” he said.
When asked whether other political parties, such as the National Conference, would join the Black Day protest, Karra said JKPCC has extended invitations to all parties, terming it a collective cause. “We have requested every party to join us, as this issue concerns the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
