UDHAMPUR, Nov 6: Demanding employment to local youth of Udhampur in the upcoming National Highway projects in the State, Congress activists took out a protest rally in the town, here today.
The rally was organized by Congress leader Shakeel Shah and headed by MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma.
Carrying party flags, the Congress passed through different bazaars of the town amidst raising of slogans in support of their demand for employment to local youth.
The rally culminated near the DC office where MLC Jugal Kishore and other leaders addressed the gathering.
Jugal Kishore stressed that the Government should give priority to the unemployed people of Udhampur district while engaging manpower for the upcoming highway projects as well as the other private projects so that locals may earn their livelihood.
He also demanded that on his upcoming tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should announce special packages for district Udhampur to promote tourism in Latti, Duddu Basantghar, Sudhmahadev, Patnitop and adjoining areas as well as small scale industries so that more employment can be generated for the people.
“Before elections, the Prime Minister had promised to solve the matter of Baridars and Pujaris of Mata Vaishno Devi but till date he has not even looked into the matter, said Jugal Kishore, who had represented Reasi Assembly from 2002 to 2008.
The rally was also addressed by State president Seva Dal, B S Samyal, Brij Mohan Sharma, Geeta Khajuria, Sumeet Magotra and Arun Sharma.
Later, Mr Jugal Kishore along with other leaders of Congress met the Deputy Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and submitted him a memorandum highlighting the demands and issues.
