Srinagar, May 6: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra today said that the Congress party stands with the Government on any measures taken against terrorism.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a monthly meeting with the party’s district presidents, Karra said the party firmly upholds every word of the resolution passed by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) regarding the Government’s response to terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“As affirmed by the CWC resolution, we stand with the Government on any action against the perpetrators. We fully support every word of that resolution,” he said.
Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karra said: “Amid the current situation in the country, the Leader of the Opposition meeting the PM conveys that the Congress party stands with the Government on any measures taken against the perpetrators.” Click here to watch video
The JKPCC president noted that war is a dangerous word with far-reaching consequences. However, he reiterated: “Given the current situation, if the Government has to take any action, in the best interest of the country, against terrorism, the Congress party will stand behind it.”
Regarding the Lieutenant Governor raising queries about the Cabinet Sub-Committee’s recommendations on the Transaction of Business Rules, Karra urged patience, noting that the recommendations have not been rejected.
“I don’t think the recommendations have been rejected. I’ve heard that only some queries have been raised. Let’s not be judgmental about it and wait. There’s also a view that he has merely sought clarification on certain points,” he said.
Speaking about the district presidents’ meeting, Karra said it was a routine monthly review in which all district presidents were present.
During the meeting, he said, new programs were introduced, and upcoming initiatives were discussed.
“We have a year-long program titled Samvidhan Bachao. We reviewed where this program has been held and where it is planned next. We also discussed the new development regarding the caste census,” he said.
The announcement of the caste census, he added, is a moment of pride for the party and its workers. He said the party is organizing a three-day workshop on the matter.
“We are happy that, due to the hard work of Rahul Gandhi, the Government was compelled to approve the caste census. We’ve planned several programs around this issue, which were also discussed in the meeting. The meeting mainly focused on organizational matters,” he said.
