JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Oct 31: Congress today paid rich tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in different functions held at Indira Chowk Jammu and party office Srinagar today.
JKPCC president Vikar Rasool Wani, working president Raman Bhalla, Incharge DCC Jammu Urban Yogesh Sawhney and several other prominent leaders attended the function organised by JKPCC and DCC Jammu Urban.

JKPCC chief and other senior leaders garlanded the statue of Indira Gandhi and paid floral tribute to the Iron lady and former Prime Minister.
Vikar Rasool Wani described Indira Gandhi a strong and bold leader who divided Pakistan into two parts and liberated Bangladesh when over 90000 Pakistan forces surrendered before India. She laid down her life for the unity and integrity of India.
He also recalled the great stalwart of the Congress party and former Home Minister Sardar Patel în his birth anniversary today. Patel played vital role în the freedom struggle and in uniting over 560 states with India. Later, he flew to Srinagar to attend a similar tribute paying function.
Bhalla also paid rich tribute to Indira Gandhi and Patel who played a great role in the nation building. Indira Gandhi laid her life for the nation and will always be remembered for her sacrifices.
Senior leaders Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Th Balbir Singh, Indu Pawar besides PCC general secretay Manmohan Singh and Rajnish Sharma also recalled the contributions of Indira Gandhi and Sardar Patel.
PCC chief also presided over a function at Srinagar party office in which senior Party leaders, DCC presidents and prominent workers were present and paid floral tribute to both the leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Wani said that Nation would continue to remain indebted to Indira Gandhi for her self-services and great contributions in Nation building.
Gandhi was known as iron lady given her valour and leadership qualities, Wani added and said the departed leader took the prestige of the Nation to the new heights in every respect and made India strong and vibrant in defense, communication, employment generation etc and worked tireless to free India from poverty and starvation.
The party also paid floral tribute to Vallabh Bhai Patel on his birth anniversary terming him a man of integrity.
Speaking on the occasion senior Congress leader and CWC Member, Tariq Hameed Karra highlighted the administrative skills and leadership qualities of former Prime Minister and described her courageous lady, who never compromised on the integrity of the Nation and remained committed to protect Indian Nation from the foreign aggression & conspiracies.
Referring to the country’s defense system, Karra added that Indira Gandhi did underground nuclear test in Pokhran and also launched lot of space satellite Arya Bhat. She signed 1971 treaty of friendship with Bangladesh and in 1972 and signed Shimla agreement to settle disputes through bilateral talks.
Senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat, Shameema Iqbal, Shameema Raina, Farhat Qureshi, Irfan Naqib, Nisar Mundoo, Umer Jaan, Sahil Farooq and others were also present.
