RAJOURI, Feb 6: Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State spokesperson, Amit Sharma, today launched a scathing attack on the Congress and National Conference (NC) , accusing them of executing a deliberate conspiracy to fragment the Jammu region into smaller, artificial entities in line with the ideological remnants of Jinnah’s Two-Nation Theory and the Dixon Plan.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club, Rajouri, Amit Sharma said that Congress and NC are deliberately pushing politically motivated nomenclatures like the so-called “Pir Panjal region” and “Chenab Valley” to ensure that Jammu never stands united as one strong political and administrative unit, and instead remains divided, weakened, and dependent on Kashmir-based political parties for its rightful share.
“There is absolutely no doubt that Rajouri and Poonch lie in the foothills of the majestic Pir Panjal range, which we proudly regard as the crown of Jammu & Kashmir—a geographical and cultural reality no one can deny. But it is equally an undeniable truth that Rajouri and Poonch are integral parts of the Jammu region and fall within the Jammu administrative division. Geography cannot be twisted to distort administrative and Constitutional facts,” Sharma asserted.
He said this intentional fragmentation is aimed at keeping Jammu politically weak so that its people are forced to agitate for their rights, as is happening today with people on the streets demanding the establishment of a National Law University in the Jammu region.
Sharma reiterated that Rajouri and Poonch are historically, culturally and Constitutionally inseparable from Jammu. “Calling them a separate ‘Pir Panjal region’ is nothing but a calculated political exercise to divide Jammu into voiceless fragments for electoral manipulation,” he said.
He further clarified that the Pir Panjal range extends across several districts of Jammu & Kashmir, including Shopian, Anantnag, Kulgam, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and others. “Similarly, the Chenab river flows through Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi and parts of Jammu. Selective regional labeling is not geography—it is political engineering aimed at breaking Jammu’s unity,” Sharma added.
Highlighting historical realities, Sharma recalled that Maharaja Hari Singh signed the Instrument of Accession for the entire Princely State of Jammu & Kashmir, including PoJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Aksai Chin. “The loss of large parts of Rajouri, Poonch, Kashmir and Ladakh was the result of betrayal and weak leadership under Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah,” he alleged.
