Cong leader demands full ration scale for Leh

LEH, May 3: District Congress Committee (DCC) Leh President Tsering Samphel has demanded full ration scale as per past practice.
In a statement issued here today he said people of Leh district are anguished over the meager food scale being provided to the public from the CA&PD Department under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and proposed Mufti Mohd Sayeed Food Entitlement Schemes (MMFES). To show their resentment, the people have refused to take the monthly scale in protest in major part of the district.
Since the region of Ladakh is faced with the hardest topographical and climatic constraint and remains cut off from other parts of the country for major parts of the year and is entirely populated by Schedule Tribes, the application of the schemes of NFSA & MMFES over Ladakh should have been considered separately after making full survey of all the regions in the country populated by Tribal people, he said. The J&K Government should have at least studied the case of Tribal belts of the neighboring State of Himachal Pradesh, where the NFSA has not been extended in the Tribal populated areas of Lahaul and Spiti and the Tribal APL category are getting 15 Kg of Rice ad 20 Kg of Atta as per month per family at concessional rates, he added.
He said hence the case in respect of Ladakh region be reviewed and an acceptable solution be found out by the Government which increased quotas of rice and Atta considering the region populated by STs.
