SAMBA, Aug 12: Former minister and newly appointed District president of Samba unit, Manjit Singh was today felicitated by workers in a function organized at Samba today.
A large number of Congress leaders, ex-block heads, and workers attended the function which was organized to felicitate Manjit Singh, on being given the new assignment. The speakers in the meeting lauded the decision of the Congress high command to appoint Manjit as new district president for Samba.
While extending gratitude to the Party president Rahul Gandhi and the State leadership, district leaders and workers reposed faith in him and his leadership.
“Congress Party has a strong base among the people. It will re-emerge in coming elections and form next Government in Jammu and Kashmir for equal development,” asserted Manjit Singh.
Referring to the period of former Chief Minister and present leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Minister Manjit Singh said, ” Azad’s tenure was golden era of Jammu and Kashmir and especially for Samba district. Under his Government, Samba became a separate district and we people got our identity.”
He said that whether it was Degree College Samba, Central University and developmental workers, everything was initiated by the Congress Government. The phase of work stopped gradually and many developmental workers initiated by then Azad Government could not be taken up, thereafter.
“BJP who ruled Jammu and Kashmir along with PDP for three years has been exposed for its false promises. They have only one agenda i.e. divide and rule. Development for this political party is a slogan not a thing, to implement on ground for the development of the people,” he alleged.
He further alleged that laying of tiles and construction of lanes-drains is never a developmental work. “These works are routine. There is no developmental of tourism spots, lack of steps taken to meet the challenge of drugs menace, generating employment, industrial sector is ignoring local youth in Bari Barhmana, Samba and Kathua, while BJP kept sleeping even as it held Industries portfolio in PDP-BJP coalition Government,” he alleged.
