JAMMU, Apr 7: Former Union Minister and president Pradesh Congress Committee Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has said that Coalition Government in the State has decided to hold Municipal Corporation and Local Bodies elections in June this year.
Addressing a workers’ rally at Domana near Jammu today, Prof Soz asked the party workers to gear up their activities for the forthcoming Local Bodies and MC polls in the State. He said that the Coordination committee of NC -Congress coalition has decided to hold these polls in June this year. He asked the party workers to elect good people from their respective areas.
PCC chief further said that Congress is emerging strong in Kashmir and Ladakh region but Jammu is the main stay and it holds key to the 2014 Assembly elections. He said the BJP has become irrelevant in Jammu because of its wrong policies and failure to respect the mandate of the people. It is the Congress party alone which is emerging as only choice of people here. He urged upon the people to give decisive mandate to the Congress party as it can ensure the unity and integrity of the State and translate the aspirations of each region. He claimed that Congress will emerge as strong and largest political force in the State in next elections and will be capable to form Government at its own.
Prof Soz said that provisions of 73rd Amendment to the Constitution of India in J&K State Panchayati Raj Act would be incorporated to further empower the Panchayats. The committee has already submitted its report and further progress on the subject was going on.
The rally was organized by former Minister Mula Ram. The PCC chief lauded the efforts of Mula Ram who has been serving the people with dedication in Raipur Domana area. He asked the people to support him.
Minister for PHE I&FC Sham Lal Sharma, Minisrer for Housing and Horticulture Raman Bhalla and PCC senior vice president Dharam Pal Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
