HYDERABAD, Dec 20: President Droupadi Murmu today described the confluence of modernity and spirituality as the greatest strength of Indian civilisation and stressed that the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, the idea of the world as one family is essential for achieving global peace.
Addresseding at the conference on ‘Timeless Wisdom of Bharat: Pathways of Peace and Progress’, organised by Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar to mark its 21st anniversary here, Murmu said that the global community is undergoing rapid transformations while simultaneously facing serious challenges such as mental health issues, social conflicts, ecological imbalance, and the erosion of human values.
In this context, she noted, the theme of the conference is highly relevant.
She emphasised that material development alone does not ensure happiness and peace, and underscored the need for inner stability, emotional intelligence, and a value-based approach to life.
Highlighting India’s ancient sage tradition, the President said that Bharat has given the world enduring ideals of truth, non-violence, and peaceful coexistence.
She stated that India’s rich spiritual heritage offers effective solutions to the world’s mental, moral, and environmental challenges.
The President observed that spirituality forms a strong foundation for social unity and national progress.
She said that individuals who cultivate mental stability, moral values, and self-discipline naturally promote tolerance, cooperation, and harmony in society.
Such spiritually conscious citizens, she added, remain mindful of their duties and actively contribute to nation-building.
The President appreciated the efforts of the Brahma Kumaris organisation, noting that for decades it has been spreading universal Indian values across the world.
“By fostering peace, positivity, and emotional strength among people, the organisation is strengthening the moral fabric of society and making a significant contribution to nation-building,” she added.
