SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Government has formulated a comprehensive plan to expand and beautify all the Gardens and Parks in the State and will ensure further beautification of famous Mughal Gardens developed about hundred years ago.
This was stated by Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks while inspecting Shalimar Gardens on the banks of world famous Dal Lake this morning.
Bukhari was accompanied by Naeem Akhter, Minister for Education.
Mr. Bukhari said that in view of huge potential of floriculture at National and International levels, the State Government will devise a strategy to exploit the ample potential of floriculture in the State. He said parks are the major attractions for tourists who throng in large numbers to entertain from the breathtaking natural beauty and magnificence of Mughal Gardens.
The Minister said that all the resources are being pooled to give further face-lift to the Mughal Gardens to preserve their pristine glory besides bringing in a Mughal aura to other parks in Kashmir. He directed the field staff as well as officers of the Floriculture Department to focus on beautification and preservation of Mughal Gardens so that this source of tourist attraction is maintained to its full potential.
Earlier the Minister was apprised that the engineering wing of the Department of Floriculture under a conservation plan of INTACH had started restoration work for conservation and perseveration of the Mughal Hamam. The Minister for Floriculture was also briefed that the building is one of the four Hamams dating back to Mughal period existing in Kashmir. During excavation work the traditional system of heating Hamams was unearthed and now can be viewed by the visitors, the INTACH officer informed.
During his round up, the Minister also took stock of repair and renovation work being carried out in Shalimar Garden and directed the Floriculture officers to maintain the decorum and pristine glory of Mughal era by camouflaging the recent constructions to give a semblance of Mughal architecture in close coordination with INTACH. He also instructed for proper illumination of and lighting system near the fountains to give added splendour to this magnificent garden.
