JAMMU, Aug 24: J&K Commercial Taxes Non-Gazetted employees have demanded re-organisation of their department and removal of pay anomalies besides filling up of vacant posts.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of J&K Commercial Taxes Non-Gazetted Employees Association (Jammu), Nazir Ahmed Bhat said that issue of re-organisation of the department was lying pending for the last more than five years now. Despite assurance by the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather on several occasions, the issue could not be resolved. He alleged that their file is tossing between Planning and Finance departments for the last several years and its clearance is yet awaited.
They pointed out that there was shortage of staff at all the Tax Collection Posts, whether it is Lakhanpur, Lower Munda, Nagri Parole or other place. Even the Excise Ranges are facing shortage of staff. Due to this shortage, the existing staff is made to work for even three consecutive shifts at posts. There is excessive work load on them. Many posts were lying vacant since long and the department failed to fill up the same. He pleaded the Finance Minister to fill up vacant posts and also remove the stagnation in the department. He said many employees are sitting at the same post since long and no promotions were accorded to them.
Mr Bhat alleged massive pay disparity in the cadre and claimed that even a Sub Inspector in Excise Department is getting less salary than a Police Head Constable. He said Inspector is getting salary just equivalent to ASI of Police Department. This is the tragedy in the system. Similar, is the position of other cadre posts including Guards in the Excise department. He also demanded two and half days’ extra salary for the staff.
They demanded that Government must go for removing pay anomalies and re-organisation of the department besides launching fast track recruitment process in the department. Chairman of the Association Surinder Gupta, Harvinder Singh general secretary, Subash Baru senior vice president and Paramjeet Singh, senior Executive body member also spoke on the occasion.
