Located at an altitude of around 16,500 feet, Point 4812 was the site of a fierce battle led by Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, who was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra.
Participants of the event retraced the original route taken by the Indian Army during the war.
A solemn Veer Gatha was organised, where war veterans, serving soldiers, students, and locals shared stories of valour and sacrifice.
Subedar Yougendar Nimbu, a Kargil War veteran from 11 Gorkha Rifles, was the chief guest.
He recalled the bravery of his comrades, including Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, and urged youth to draw inspiration from the courage shown by soldiers.
Calling the battle site a “sacred ground of Indian valour,” he expressed pride in the remembrance event.
Colonel Sunil Koshal also attended the programme and interacted with students and villagers.
Cultural performances by school children added colour to the occasion, and mementoes were presented to veterans while gifts were distributed among the children.
The event was attended by nominated Councillor Rigzin Gurmet, social activist Tashi Lundup, local elders, and residents from nearby villages.
Lundup said the new memorial and viewpoint at Point 4812 would preserve the legacy of Kargil heroes and help boost tourism in the Aryan Valley.
The event paid rich tribute to soldiers of 12 JAKLI and other regiments, reinforcing the commitment to remember their courage and sacrifice.
