Combating rising pollution levels

Sir,
I write to draw attention to the critical issue of escalating pollution in the Delhi-NCR region, as highlighted in your recent coverage. The Supreme Court’s directive to halt crop residue burning is a welcome step, considering the hazardous levels of pollution turning our region into a noxious gas chamber.
While past and present Governments have attempted to address pollution from construction and vehicular emissions, the menace of stubble burning persists, aggravated by the upcoming firecracker festivities. The consequences are dire, posing severe health risks to the populace.
It is disheartening to note the lack of effective measures by different states and the absence of concerted efforts for cost-effective alternatives to stubble burning. The issue has unfortunately become a political quagmire, overshadowing its profound impact on public health.
I urge all stakeholders to unite with urgency and purpose, heeding the Supreme Court’s directive to immediately halt stubble burning.
