College teachers attending duties wearing black ribbons

JAMMU, Aug 26: Protesting against the alleged apathetic attitude of Government towards their long pending demands, the college teachers in Jammu province are wearing black ribbons on their arms during the duty hours.
Protesting under the banner of College Teachers Association, they are demanding restoration of Advanced Increments for higher qualifications, regular DPCs with monetary effect from the date of eligibility of placements, adoption of UGC Regulations-2018 by issuing the much awaited Statutory Order(SO) for the same and adoption of Study Leave for the pursuit of PhD as per UGC Regulations-2018.
On August 20, these college teachers had observed a Pen Down strike across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
Even as all the college teachers are now attending to their duties in the college, they are wearing black ribbon on their arms as a sign of resentment against the alleged lackadaisical approach of Government towards their `genuine’ demands.
According to Rakesh Jasrotia, President of College Teachers Association, they have repeatedly represented their issues before the Financial Commissioner, Advisors and even to Lt Governor but no action was taken so far.
He threatened to suspend the work indefinitely if the Government does not take cognizance of their demands.
