College students protest in Samba, Kathua

SAMBA/KATHUA, Dec 19: A large number of students of Degree College Samba and PG College Kathua today took out strong protest rallies, demanding hanging of all the accused involved in gang-rape of a Delhi student in a moving bus in the Union capital two days back.
A large number of students from Samba Degree College, led by Women Development Cell of the College boycotted their classes in the morning and took out a strong protest march. They were holding placards  in hands and raising slogans against the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh,  Home Minister and UPA Government demanding stringent punishment for all the accused involved in the gang rape of a Nursing student in a moving bus in Delhi. They also demanded that stringent laws be enacted to curb increasing crime against women.
These agitating students including large number of girls, then came out on the Jammu- Pathankote National Highway near Mansar Morh and raised barricades. They blocked highway for some time and disrupted movement of traffic. The police however, persuaded them not to disrupt traffic and harass innocent citizens.
After taking out protest march on the highway, then they culminated their protest.
Meanwhile, similar protest rally was taken out by the students of Degree College Kathua today. The students after boycotting their classes came out on the road and moved towards DC Office complex. Holding protest there for some time, they moved towards town on College road and culminated their protest near  Main Chowk. A large number of girls were also accompanying the protest rally. The students projected the demand of hanging for the accused involved in Delhi gang rape case.
A yet another protest demonstration was staged by the women of the town led by social activists at Main Chowk in Kathua town this afternoon. The women raised slogans against Manhoman Singh and UPA chairperson and demanded strict action against the Delhi gang- rape accused.
