UDHAMPUR, May 11: Protesting against the newly introduced semester system for three-year General Degree course, the students of different colleges held a strong protest demonstration at MH Chowk and also blocked the National Highway.
They raised slogans against the semester system and demand that old pattern of conducting examinations for Part, II and III should be allowed to continue. They were also demanding the postponement of the scheduled examination of second semester, date sheet of which has been released.
The protesting students assembled at Indira Chowk Udhampur and then marched towards MH Chowk where they staged a strong demonstration and disrupted the vehicular movement by blocking National Highway for more than one hour.
The protesters were addressed by students leaders; Rohit Khajuria, Pooja Sharma, Vinkal Sharma, Sadaf, Eklavya Sallan, Aman Sharma, Sushant Gupta, Ajay Singh, Swati Thakur and others.
The protest dharna was lifted only after the assurance from Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, who said that he would take up the students’ demand with the Jammu University authorities.
