JAMMU, Aug 25: A collection of scholarly articles by Kanwal Kashmiri (Retd JKAS officer) was released today by Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) at Srinagar.
The book, titled ‘Formation of Punjabi Literature in Jammu & Kashmir’, has been edited by Rattan Singh Kanwal.
Prof Prithipal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion while noted Punjabi writer Ajit Singh Mastana presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Prithipal Singh remarked that personalities like Kanwal Kashmiri have always been serving Punjabi literature with great dedication, contributing works of high literary value. He further said that such luminaries have not only enriched the literary treasure of Punjabi but also inspired generations to carry forward the cultural legacy. He added that their writings continue to be a beacon of wisdom, creativity and linguistic pride for the community.
In his presidential address, Ajit Singh Mastana observed that Kanwal Kashmiri, apart from being a JKAS officer, has earned a distinguished place in the world of Punjabi literature. From the beginning till now, he has enriched Punjabi literature without leaving any stone unturned. He further appreciated the sincere efforts of the Punjabi Section of JKAACL, stating that its systematic and thoughtful work gives immense satisfaction to the Punjabi literary fraternity.
Popinder Singh Paras, Senior Editor Sheeraza Punjabi, highlighted various initiatives undertaken by JKAACL for the promotion of literature and culture in Jammu & Kashmir. He applauded the literary contributions of eminent writers, particularly Kanwal Kashmiri and remarked that such writers not only enrich the world of letters but also leave behind a lasting legacy that serves as a valuable source of research and inspiration for the younger generation.
A large number of prominent personalities, scholars including Joginder Singh Shan Kashmiri, Dara Singh, R S Rajan, Kewalpal Singh, staff members of JKAACL- Trilok Singh, Ranbir Singh, Jasbir Kaur, and several others, along with family members of the author, attended the function.
A detailed paper on the book was also presented by Ichpal Singh, Secretary Sikh Sahik Sabha Kashmir. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ichpal Singh while the vote of thanks was extended by Popinder Singh Paras.
