
Fog hits train, air traffic; 2 flights cancelled

JAMMU, Dec 28: While dense fog has disrupted train and air services in Jammu, the cold wave has gripped plain areas of the region for the past couple of days, whereas, traffic on Mughal Road has been restored.
Official sources said that two flights were cancelled and four others were delayed at Jammu airport today due to dense fog during morning hours while the arrival of about half a dozen trains was also delayed due to fog in the northern region.
According to Director Airport Authority Jammu, Devender Yadav, two Air India flights bound for Leh and Srinagar were cancelled while four Indigo flights operating between Delhi-Jammu and one between Leh Jammu were delayed.

Yadav said there were 32 arrival/departure scheduled flights today from Jammu Airport. The departure time of some of the flights was also re-scheduled with the impact of fog and poor visibility. However, after 11.30 am, the visibility improved.
With the drop in temperature in Jammu and its plain areas for the last 2-3 days, the region has been gripped in the cold wave. About 3-4 degrees drop in the temperature has been witnessed in Jammu in last four-five days. With the continuous fog and absence of Sun during most of the time during the day, a significant decline in day temperature has been observed.
As per a MeT official, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1 deg Celsius today while it was 7.7 deg on Saturday. Bhaderwah recorded a minimum temperature of 1.6 deg C, Katra Mata Vaishnodevi 8.2 deg, Banihal 4.5 deg, Udhampur 6.6 , Ramban 6.5, Rajouri 3.4 deg while Doda registered 7 deg C today.
Srinagar today recorded minimum temperature of 0.8 deg C, Pahalgam minus 1.8 deg C, Gulmarg minus 2.2 deg C, Kupwara, 0.2 deg and Kokernag registered 0.2 deg C.
The MeT official has predicted partially to generally cloudy weather in Jammu and Kashmir on December 29, and generally cloudy with light rain/ snow at scattered places across the region on Dec 30.
On Dec 31 and Jan Ist, the MeT official forecasts generally cloudy weather with possibility of light rain / snow at many places, few middle and higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall. On Jan 2 again, he has predicted light to moderate rain and snow at scattered places while from Jan 3 to 8 partly cloudy weather is expected in the region.
A Northern Railway spokesman said that Vande Bharat train was delayed by two hours, Tata Jammu Tawi by over 9.50 hours, Hemkund by about two hours, while several others were delayed by 30 minutes to 3 hours including Andeman Express and Himgiri. Even Rajdani was also late by about 45 minutes. The departure time of only three trains was rescheduled, he added.
With the dense fog, the vehicular traffic was also badly hit on the Jammu roads besides between Inter-district and inter-state routes during past 24 hours.
