SRINAGAR, Dec 17: Police in Ganderbal have seized cocaine worth over Rs 10 crore in the international illicit market and arrested two alleged drug peddlers, officials said today.
According to officials, the recovery was made during special naka checking operations conducted on December 8, during which Mohammad Irfan Bhat of Kharbagh, Wakura, was apprehended.

In this connection, an FIR (No. 200/2025) under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and an investigation was launched.

Considering the gravity of the offence and suspected links of the accused, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted by SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal under the supervision of Additional SP Ganderbal Owaise Loun to trace the backward and forward linkages of the drug network.
During the investigation, police conducted searches at multiple locations, including Sumbal, Shadipora, Zakura and other suspected places, after obtaining search warrants from the court.
As a result of the sustained investigation, police identified and arrested another alleged drug peddler, Maqsood Hussain Khan, son of Abdul Majeed Khan, a resident of Hazratbal, Srinagar, presently staying at Gooripora, Sanat Nagar.
During a search of his rented accommodation in Gooripora, Sanat Nagar, conducted on the intervening night of December 16 and 17, police recovered two packets of a cocaine-like substance weighing approximately one kilogram, officials said.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth over Rs 10 crore in the international illicit drug market.
Police also seized a vehicle, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets.
Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the contraband, the supply chain and any inter-state or international linkages.
More arrests and recoveries are likely, police said.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug abuse or peddling.
