JAMMU, July 29: In a proud moment for the border belt of Rajouri–Poonch and for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, Nazakat Choudhary, an acclaimed social worker and Director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation of India, was conferred with the Recognition Award by the Department of Forest, Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
The award ceremony took place at the iconic Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The honour was presented to Nazakat by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alongside Forest Minister Javed Rana, Advisor to CM Nasir Wani, Commissioner Secretary to Government Sheetal Nanda, Secretary Tribal Affairs Prasanna Ramaswamy G, and PCCF Suresh Gupta, amidst a large gathering of officials, dignitaries and members of civil society. The event was organized as a joint initiative of the Forest Department, the Tribal Affairs Department and the Jal Shakti Department.
Among only four individuals selected for recognition across J&K, Nazakat stood out as the lone representative from the Pir Panjal region, recognized for his extraordinary efforts in afforestation awareness, anti-corruption drives, public hygiene campaigns and tribal welfare advocacy. His multi-dimensional work as Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission – J&K has brought visible transformation in sanitation and civic sense in far-flung villages and tribal pockets.
Nazakat has earned a reputation for his on-ground leadership and fearless activism, especially in the sectors of rural cleanliness, environmental protection, and youth mobilization. He has been spearheading initiatives aimed at building transparent governance and socially responsible citizenship.
In his acceptance remarks, Nazakat said, “This award is a moment of encouragement not just for me but for every volunteer and young person working silently for the betterment of our communities.”
The recognition has placed Nazakat in the spotlight once again as a rising voice from J&K—someone who blends social action with institutional engagement.
