JAMMU, Nov 23: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), today organized a one-day convention here in Jammu attended by its activists and volunteers from Jammu.
In his media interaction after the program, Anil Sharma, president of the AJKPC, informed that during the convention important issues related to the organization and others concerning Jammu division were deliberated upon, and all the office bearers of the AJKPC gave their valuable suggestions.
Sharma said the participants have urged the AJKPC leadership to raise the issue of establishment of more administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir as was promised by the then National Conference Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in 2014, wherein the Government had promised to establish additional administrative units in several districts of Kashmir and Jammu division.
AJKPC president stated that before the 2014 Assembly elections, the Omar Abdullah Government had constituted a high-powered committee of senior political functionaries to recommend the establishment of administrative units, including Sub Divisions, Tehsils and Niabats, across Jammu and Kashmir. However, before these recommendations could be implemented, the Assembly elections were announced and the proposal remained unexecuted.
“It is high time that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fulfils his own promise and establishes the new administrative units,” Sharma said, reminding the CM of his earlier commitment. He said it is imperative that for providing time-bound delivery of services to the people at their doorsteps, these new administrative units are established without any further delay.
Over a year has passed since the formation of the NC Government in J&K, but none of their Ministers, MLAs or leaders has even whispered about this important issue.
The AJKPC particularly pressed for the creation of an SDM office for Nagrota and granting Tehsil status to Jindrah, terming them long-pending public demands essential for ensuring efficient governance in rural areas.
Among other issues raised during the convention were the demand for establishing a Degree College at Agor in Block Mathwar and shifting Degree College Nagrota to its designated college campus, as it is presently functioning from the Government Higher Secondary School building. The AJKPC also demanded establishment of National Law University in Nagorta Assembly Constituency.
