SRINAGAR, Aug 7: Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University of Srinagar (CUS), Mohammad Mobin, today said that the university will soon launch its first-ever PhD programme alongside new postgraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Music and General Studies.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, Mobin said, “For a long time, there was no culture of research in our colleges because PhD programmes were not offered. But now, we have completed all the arrangements and formulated the regulations. We will notify the PhD programme either today or tomorrow.”
He said the initiative would enable college faculty to guide PhD scholars for the first time, which he termed a “big thing” for the higher education ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mubin highlighted that the university has already introduced 18 postgraduate (PG) programmes in the Union Territory, four of which are highly ambitious and job-oriented. “We have started an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, a master’s degree in Data Science, and also launched new PG programmes in General Studies and Music. There is a growing demand for music courses, and earlier we didn’t have any PG option for it,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the university’s role in fulfilling the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly in strengthening postgraduate education and building a robust research culture. “We have effectively implemented NEP at Cluster University and have prepared and approved all relevant policies and documents,” he said.
He further announced that the university has drafted a policy document for the Government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 programme, aimed at making India a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. “We are giving final touches to it. All our affiliated colleges will conduct activities under this policy,” he said.
He added that youth engagement was a key area under Viksit Bharat, and the university is also actively participating in the Viksit Bharat Youth Connect initiative. “A mega event is scheduled on August 12, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address students across India. Leading up to that, we’ve conducted several pre-event activities,” he said.
Among these are a Youth Parliament held at Amar Singh College, Nasha Mukt Bharat awareness activities at the College of Education, and another programme at SP College. “The culmination of these events will take place at Amar Singh College on August 11,” he said.
