Jammu, Dec 22: The Department of Linguistics & Literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts (SHLA), Cluster University of Jammu, celebrated Dogri Manyata Diwas under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof K S Chandrasekar.
The programme was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Padma Shri Romalo Ram, a renowned Dogri folk artist of the Jammu region. On this occasion, Duggar Mela 2025 was organized in collaboration with IQAC (SHLA), the Department of Music and Performing Arts (MPA), and the Department of English, under the aegis of the School of Humanities and Liberal Arts.
The Duggar Mela was formally inaugurated by Romalo Ram and Vice-Chancellor Prof K S Chandrasekar.
The guests visited various stalls set up by students of PGI, PG Linguistics, and the Department of MPA, which showcased the rich Dogra culture, traditions, and heritage.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the creative efforts of the students and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Duggar heritage and linguistic identity.
Padma Shri Romalo Ram captivated the audience with his performance and congratulated the Vice-Chancellor for his active and significant role in the promotion and preservation of the Dogri language.
The students displayed Dogra culture through a wide range of stalls featuring traditional Dogra cuisine and Handicraft items, which attracted large public participation. The delicacies included Kimbh, Rajma-Chawal, Toda- Saag, Kachalu, Chai, Desi Chai, Kyur, Gol Gappe, Dal Ambal, Khatti Rongi, Gajak, Moongfali, Kheer, Shakkarpare, Mathi, Sambe Ke Bhalle, and Thandi Khui Ki Barfi. The highlight of the fair was the performance of traditional Dogri songs accompanied by dhol, presented by students of the Department of Music and Performing Arts, which added vibrancy and cultural richness to the event.
The programme was held under the supervision of Prof Monika Sharma, Dean, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts. The event was coordinated by Dr Reena Salaria, Head, Department of Linguistics & Literature; Dr Kuldeep Raina, Head, Department of Music and Performing Arts; and Prof Ruth Masehi, Head, Department of English.
