Cloudburst hits Doda, Kishtwar; Minor among five dead, four bodies recovered

 

JAMMU:  At least five persons including four women and a child were killed as cloudburst hit the mountainous Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

    “Cloudburst hit during wee hours today at around 0220 hours in main bazar of Thathri in Doda district,” police here said today.

    They said that many people feared dead, while structures including houses, schools and shops also got damaged.

    “So far three bodies have been recovered from the debris,” police said.

 The recovered were identified of Neeru Devi,35, Sureshta Devi and Patna Devi. “Six houses, two shops and one National Academy High School at Thathri was completely damaged in the flash floods triggered due to cloudburst,” they added.

     Further police said that the rescue operation is on and 15 injured have been rushed to the hospital.

     In a separate incident, Cloudburst also hit in Dool area of Kishtwar.

 “A woman and her grandson while many cattle got washed away when cloudburst hit Chachra Cherji village in Dool,” Sandeep Wazir, SSP Kishtwar said here.

 He also said that the body of lady identified as Kungi Devi,50, while her grandson namely Samrat is still missing.  (AGENCIES)
