JAMMU, Dec 21: President of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory, Darshan Rana today urged the Government to immediately clear all pending bills and wage payments under MGNREGA.
In a press handout issued, the BSP leader stated that it has come to light that despite works having been duly executed under the MGNREGA scheme, payments to labourers as well as material component bills remain pending for a long period.
“This has pushed poor workers and rural households into acute financial distress, defeating the very purpose of the employment guarantee scheme,” he said.
Rana emphasized that MGNREGA was launched to ensure livelihood security, timely employment and dignity of labour.
However, unjustified delays in payments have eroded public confidence in the scheme and exposed workers to exploitation, debt and hardship. In several cases, works were completed on time, yet bills were neither cleared nor released, reflecting serious administrative failure.
Rana further demanded that all pending MGNREGA wages and material component bills be released immediately.
He demanded for a high-level inquiry to be conducted to ascertain reasons for delay and fix accountability and a time-bound, transparent payment mechanism be ensured to prevent recurrence of such lapses.
Rana also warned that if the Government fails to act promptly, BSP will be compelled to take up the issue vigorously at the public level through democratic means in the interest of poor and marginalized sections.
