JAMMU, Feb 4: The process of cleaning wall painting at Mucho Wale Ram Ji Darbar was initiated here today.
The process was started after detailed discussions by eminent citizens including Dr Lalit Gupta, Arvind Kotwal, Kirpal Dev Singh, Dr Mrinalini Atrey, Kushagra Anand and Paras Sharma.
Mucho Wale Ram Ji Darbar was built by Raja Dhyan Singh in the 19th Century AD. Raja Dhyan Singh was the brother of Maharaja Gulab Singh.
As per legend it is believed to be one of the four Ram Temples across India which has the deity of Ram and Laxman Ji with moustaches. The other unique aspect of the temple is the intricate Wall Paintings that adorn the front hall of the Temple.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Hall comprises of more than 30 panels of Wall Paintings that are believed to be the earliest example of Jammu School of Miniature Paintings.
The cleaning project was undertaken at the site under the leadership of Kirpal Dev Singh (a trained art conservator) and support of the team members.
The owners, caretakers of the Temple were also present during the project. Local people also demand that urgent conservation/restoration work along with allied finishing should be undertaken by the government agencies to bring the temple back to former glory.
