JAMMU, Dec 4: A class 12th girl ended her life by setting self on fire after pouring kerosene oil on her body, at her residence in Rajpura, here late last night.
According to a police spokesperson, one Sonam Gupta (18), daughter of Pawan Gupta, a resident of Rajpura, falling under the jurisdiction of police station Bakshi Nagar, allegedly set herself afire after locking herself in a room of her residence, late last. The girl was alone in the home at that time as all her family members had gone to attend a marriage function.
Noticing flames of fire, the neighbours rushed to her help, but it was too late. The girl completely got burnt in the fire and lost her life. The neighbours shifted the body of the deceased to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, where after conducting post mortem, it was handed over to family members for last rites.
The girl reportedly took this extreme step in depression, as her parents used to quarrel with each other daily on minor issues.
A case in this regard has been registered at police station Bakshi Nagar and further investigation is on.
