CJ directs DLSAs to reach out to border firing victims

JAMMU, Nov 2: On the directions of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice N Paul Vasantha Kumar and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, State Legal Services Authority has directed Chairpersons of District Legal Services Authorities (Principal District and Session Judges) of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch  Kupwara and Baramulla districts to reach out the victims of border firing and shelling.
The Principal District and Sessions Judges of these districts have been directed to constitute Core Groups headed by Judicial Officers in terms of “Scheme for Legal Services to Disaster Victims through Legal Services Authorities” to coordinate with district administration of their respective districts for timely evacuation of firing victims to the temporary shelter camps (relief camps) opened in the concerned districts.
They have also been asked to ensure smooth distribution of relief materials to the victims, assess the damage caused to the life and property of the victims so that the cases for disbursement of relief are processed expeditiously by district administration, open Temporary Legal Aid Clinics in the relief camps manned by Para Legal Volunteers to hear the grievances of the victims and forward the same to the district administration for their redressal.
Chairperson of DLSAs have further been directed to submit the consolidated report to the State Authority for further course of action.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Justice is the Patron-in-Chief of J&K State Legal Services Authority and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir is its Executive Chairman.
