KUPWARA, May 15: Following the recent incidents in which the Pakistani Army allegedly targeted civilians along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, members of civil society from various areas of Kupwara district staged a protest demonstration here today.
People from various areas including Taratpora, Golipora Zachaldara, Vilgam, Magam and Handwara participated in the protest.
The protests were held in the main markets of Handwara and Taratpora, drawing scores of local residents, social activists and youth organizations.
The demonstrators raised slogans condemning Pakistan’s continued aggression and violations of the ceasefire agreement.
Many carried placards denouncing the targeting of innocent civilians and called for a firm response from the Indian government.
Speaking on the occasion, a spokesperson from the civil society said, “We strongly condemn Pakistan’s cowardly act of shelling civilian areas. It is unacceptable and a direct threat to peace in the region.”
Protesters also appealed to international organizations to take cognizance of Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violations and the toll they continue to take on the lives of people living near the LoC.
