Citizens Forum demands Heritage Tourism Framework in Jammu

JAMMU, June 13: Citizen’s Forum here today has urged upon the Governor, Satya Pal Malik and Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh to revive the grandeur of State’s age old heritage by converting palaces and Havelis into hotels, cafes, museums and other cultural assets.
In a handout the Forum stated that tourism atmosphere in Jammu region should be made equal to southern states and Rajasthan.
“Rajasthan has even showcased their bowlies (springs) into tourist destinations. Village tourism is to be promoted at selected spots with infrastructure of civic amenities, power and water supply for 24 hours,” the Forum members said.
The Forum further informed that there is a 20 year perspective plan for sustainable tourism development in J&K prepared by M/s Santek Consultancy of Delhi but the plan was used to develop Kashmir sites and nothing has been done in Jammu.
The Forum further said that Satellite Township around Patnitop like Mcleodganj and tourism development at beautiful places like Doda, Kishtwar should also be done.
