CII Foundation, RDD, Leh sign MoU for sustainable waste management

LEH, Mar 26: In a significant step towards sustainable waste management and community-driven development, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Foundation and the Rural Development Department (RDD), Ladakh, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here, today.
This collaboration aims to establish efficient Solid Resource Management Centers (SRMCs) at Kharu and Chuchot Blocks of Leh district, promote scientific waste management practices and create livelihood opportunities for local communities in Ladakh, a handout issued here today said.
The MoU was formalized in Leh by Chandrakant Pradhan, representing CII Foundation, and Junaid Amin Bhat, District Panchayat Officer, Leh, who emphasized that this partnership will set a benchmark for sustainable waste management in the region.
The handout said the partnership will focus on scientific waste management, environmental conservation, and economic empowerment of local communities.
CII Foundation and RDD will develop and enhance SRMCs across Ladakh, conduct capacity-building programmes and implement pilot projects for sustainable waste solutions, it said.
The handout said the initiative will integrate innovative waste management practices, community engagement, and skill development programmes to ensure long-term impact.
The agreement is effective immediately and will be executed over a period of 18 months, from March 25, 2025, to September 30, 2026, it said.
This MoU marks a transformative step in Ladakh’s waste management ecosystem, ensuring a cleaner environment while fostering economic resilience among local communities.
