JAMMU, Sept 2: Police Station CICE Jammu has filed a challan in a case involving fake social media accounts created in the name of AIIMS Jammu.
The action followed a written complaint lodged by Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Vijaypur, who reported that several impersonated accounts had surfaced on Instagram and Facebook misrepresenting the institution.
Quoting the complainant, a CICE official said these fake profiles were being used to exploit the reputation of AIIMS Jammu and had the potential to spread false information among the public.
Acting on the inputs, he said, CICE Jammu registered FIR number 07/2025 on March 25 against the accused, identified as Amit Sharma of Parladhpur, Jammu, under section 66-D of the amended IT Act, 2008.
During the course of investigation, he said, police adopted advanced technical methods to trace the accused.
According to him, the Investigating Officer collected crucial records from telecom service providers and social media platforms, besides analyzing IP addresses and digital footprints.
He said modern electronic gadgets and e-sakshay services were also used to examine the accused and gather both oral and documentary evidence.
The CICE official further said the investigations revealed that the accused had created fake Facebook and Instagram pages in the name of AIIMS Jammu and even uploaded official e-bid documents to make the pages appear authentic.
“This misrepresentation attracted the general public, who were misled into believing the accounts were genuine. Following the probe, the fake social media pages were disabled to prevent further misuse,” he said.
Accordingly, the challan in the case was presented before the Court of Special Railway Magistrate, Jammu today, with the accused produced in court under relevant provisions of the IT Act.
The investigation in the case was carried out under the supervision of SHO CICE Jammu and senior police officers, including DySP Sachit Mahajan and SSP CICE J&K Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo, with IO DySP Jagdeep Singh leading the probe.
