JAMMU, Jan 31: Taking cognizance of a second appeal by an aggrieved RTI activist, the State Information Commission has directed the PIO Estates Department to provide complete and correct information on unauthorized allotment of Government quarters to politicians and their relatives besides other details sought by the applicant within 15 days.
The Information Commission has also pulled up Director Estates Department, Jammu who is the First Appellant Authority (FAA) for delay in passing order within the time prescribed under section 16 of the RTI Act.
Directions in this regard were given by G R Sofi, Chief Information Commissioner, J&K, on a second appeal filed by Mohd Ayub Ayan, who has sought information from the Estates Department about the location of Estate plots, unauthorized construction on them, legal action taken against such persons, unauthorized allotment of Government quarters to Ex-ministers, MLAs, their relatives and expenditure on furniture, electricity etc incurred by the Estate Department.
The appellant had field RTI application before Deputy Director/PIO Estates Department on August 6, 2012. The appellant on not getting information, filed first appeal before the Director/FAA, Estates Department on October 11, 2012. The order was passed on December 17, 2012, beyond the maximum time of 45 days under Section 16 of the RTI Act.
Again on not being satisfied with the compliance of this order by PIO, the appellant field second appeal before the Commission seeking direction to the PIO for providing complete and correct information.
