A star in the night sky, a manger in a humble stable, and a child wrapped in cloth – these simple images form the heart of Christmas. Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem over 2,025 years ago, is one of the most influential figures in history. His life and teachings have inspired billions across centuries, shaping culture, ethics, and faith worldwide.
As December arrives, streets sparkle with shimmering lights, homes fill with the warm aroma of festive treats, and the world pauses to embrace the magic of Christmas. At the heart of this festival is the birth of Jesus Christ, whose coming was foretold long before in the Old Testament, a promise that brought hope and light to generations longing for salvation.
The Prophecies about the birth of Jesus Christ
Centuries ago, God revealed the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ through different prophets from time to time. Prophets shared a glimpse of this divine child, announcing a Saviour who would bring light to the world. One such prophecy says, “For unto us a child is born… and He will be called wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). The prophecy in Isaiah 9:6 was wonderfully fulfilled centuries later in the New Testament, when God sent the Angel Gabriel to Mary.
The birth of Jesus Christ
Long ago, in the small, peaceful, and quiet village of Nazareth, there lived a gentle and devoted young woman of great purity and kindness named Mary. She was betrothed to Joseph, a humble and hardworking carpenter known for his honesty and gentle nature. Their life was simple, but filled with faith and devotion to God.
One blessed day, the silence of Mary’s home was touched by a heavenly presence. The angel Gabriel appeared before her, shining with the glory of God. With a voice filled with peace, he greeted her:
“Hail, Mary! You are highly favored. The Lord is with you.”
Mary was startled yet listened carefully as Gabriel continued with a divine message:
“Do not be afraid, Mary. God has chosen you to bring His Son into the world. You will give birth to a child named Jesus, who will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Though this news was beyond human understanding, Mary’s heart was strong with faith. She asked, “How can this be?” and Gabriel gently explained that it would happen through the power of the Holy Spirit-for nothing is impossible for God.
Filled with trust and devotion, Mary bowed her head and responded with the most beautiful words of surrender:
“I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to His word.”
Lucifer, often described as a rebel angel and adversary of God’s purpose, sought to destroy the promised Savior by working through earthly power. He influenced Roman King Herod, whose fear and jealousy led him to order the massacre of infants in Bethlehem in an attempt to eliminate Jesus.
A decree from the Roman Emperor required everyone to return to their hometown to be registered. Joseph and Mary, therefore, set out on a long and tiring journey to Bethlehem, Joseph’s ancestral city. With Mary soon to give birth and the roads crowded with travelers, they arrived to find every inn full. Left with no place to stay, they were given shelter in a humble stable. On a silent night beneath a sky filled with stars, Jesus was born. Mary wrapped the newborn child in cloth and gently laid Him in a manger, for there was no proper bed for the newborn King. Though the surroundings were simple, the moment was divine.
Angel Gabriel’s Divine Message to the Shepherds
That same night, heaven itself announced the good news to the humble. As shepherds watched over their flocks in the fields near Bethlehem, an angel of the Lord appeared before them, and the glory of God shone around them. The angel proclaimed a message of great joy, declaring that a Savior-Christ the Lord-had been born. They were told they would find the child wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger. Suddenly, the sky was filled with a heavenly host praising and singing “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth!” Filled with joy, the shepherds rushed to see the baby. They bowed before Jesus and praised God for the miracle.
The Journey of the Magi to Meet the Newborn King
Far from Bethlehem, wise men from the East noticed a bright, shining star in the night sky, a heavenly sign that a great King had been born. Guided by this miraculous light, they embarked on a long and challenging journey across deserts, mountains, and unfamiliar lands, carrying precious gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Each step of their journey was driven by faith and anticipation, for they understood that this child would change the world.
When they finally arrived in Bethlehem, they found the infant Jesus with Mary and Joseph. Overwhelmed with awe and reverence, they bowed before Him and presented their gifts, acknowledging His kingship and divinity. The wise men’s journey symbolizes the pursuit of truth and the willingness to follow divine guidance, no matter the obstacles. Their visit reminds us that the birth of Jesus is a message for all people, transcending boundaries of distance, wealth, or status, and that the light of hope and love shines for everyone, everywhere.
Humility of Jesus’ Birth
Jesus, the Son of God, was born in a humble manger instead of a palace. This showed that He came not as a powerful ruler but as a servant full of love and compassion. His humble birth teaches us the value of simplicity and humility.
Joy to the World
The birth of Jesus brought joy not only to Mary and Joseph but to the whole world. Angels praised God, shepherds rejoiced, and wise men worshiped Him. This joy continues today as people celebrate Christmas with hope and faith.
God’s Plan of Salvation
God’s plan of salvation shows His great love for humanity. Even when people fell into sin, God did not abandon them. From the very beginning, He promised to send a Savior who would bring forgiveness, hope, and eternal life. This promise was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, who came into the world to save people from sin and darkness. Through His life, teachings, sacrifice on the cross, and resurrection, Jesus opened the way for humans to be reconciled with God. God’s plan of salvation reminds us that His love is constant, merciful, and meant for everyone who believes.
From Bethlehem to the World, a Message That Still Unites Humanity
Jesus Christ was born humbly in the small town of Bethlehem, yet His message reached the entire world. From a manger surrounded by simplicity and love, He grew to become the Savior of humanity. Although his life began in a quiet village, his teachings transcended borders, cultures, and generations. Jesus preached love, forgiveness, compassion, and faith in God, touching the hearts of millions. From Bethlehem, His light spread across the world, guiding people out of darkness and showing them the path of peace and salvation. Even today, His life and teachings continue to inspire humanity to live with kindness, humility, and hope.

His birth calls humanity to rise above selfishness and division, embracing forgiveness and kindness instead. As the great poet John Greenleaf Whittie wrote, ‘Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways,’ reminding us that true peace begins with humility and love. Christmas urges us to open our hearts, heal broken relationships, and spread hope, just as Christ came to be the light in a dark and troubled world.”
