Jammu: A chopper carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims today developed technical snag while taking off and the passengers had a close shave at the helipad in Katra town of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir.

“A helicopter of Global Vectra Private Limited this afternoon was about to take off for the Bhawan from Katra but due to some technical snag, it could not,” official sources here said.

They said that the chopper spinned and rotated for sometime at the helipad instead of taking off. “The pilot acted swiftly and pushed off the engine resulting into the bringing the chopper to land safely,” they added.

The devotees however, had a close shave.

“The devotees were later sent to the Sanjhi Chhat in another flight,” Piyush Singla, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shrine Board said.

He said that senior officers have rushed to the spot to assess the situation on ground, adding, “we have reported the matter to DGCA and the reason behind the snag will be ascertained later.” (Agencies)
