RAJOURI, Apr 4: Residents of Thannamandi have voiced serious concern over the severely clogged and poorly maintained drainage system within the jurisdiction of Municipal Committee, Thannamandi, which has become a major cause of public inconvenience.
The persistent choking of drains, particularly along the stretch from Government Higher Secondary School, Thannamandi to Shahdara Chowk, has led to the accumulation of stagnant water on roads and adjoining areas. The situation has worsened due to the apparent lack of regular desilting and proper upkeep by the concerned authorities.
Locals allege that the overflowing drains disrupt normal movement in MC Thannamandi’s jurisdiction. Pedestrians, students, and shopkeepers are among the worst affected, as they are forced to navigate through waterlogged and unsanitary surroundings on a daily basis. Residents have expressed disappointment over the inaction of the Municipal Committee.
The aggrieved public has urged the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to take immediate notice of the matter and direct the concerned authorities to undertake urgent desilting and restoration of the drainage system. They have also called for a long-term maintenance plan to ensure that such issues do not recur in the future.
