BEIJING, Mar 14: Over 4,000 people, mostly Chinese, enjoyed a variety of cultural performances and traditional cuisine at this year’s Vasant Mela organised by the Indian Embassy here on Saturday.

The annual event titled ‘One Civilization, Countless Expressions,’ at the sprawling premises of the old Indian Embassy is increasingly becoming a big draw among Chinese with more people along with their families joining the spring festival to experience Indian culture, officials said.

Members of the Indian diaspora along with Chinese artists learning India’s art forms at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the embassy staged a variety of music and dance performances regaling the audience.

The event was opened by Indian Ambassador, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, who said Vasant Mela is a vibrant celebration of Indian culture and a bringing together of Indian music, dance, culture and food.

This year the embassy has charged 40 RMB (about USD six) per person as entry fees.

The visitors stood in long lines in front of food stalls of the local Indian restaurants which served a variety of cuisine from different parts of India. (PTI)
