Sir,
This is apropos the sensational revelations of Chinese cyber attack on DRDO hacking the important defence files and uploading them on their Gwagong server. Though this news has been gently denied by the PRO of DRDO, Dr Ravi Gupta, there cannot be smoke without ignition at the bottom. We have to seriously keep in mind and plan to exercise extra notch of cyber vigilance in relation to strategic machinations and mischiefs of China. Sooner the better, we must accept that China is rapidly metamorphosing into the most intractable neighbour and emerging as a potential threat on economic as well as on internal/external security front. We can’t afford to replicate the analogy of a pigeon shutting the eyelids when confronted with a fierce and mighty cat. Lackadaisical approach would not suffice.
There is no denying the fact that we have developed matching expertise in the cyber field and do have the competitive edge vis-a-vis China, but the time has changed, values stand modified. This is not the era of gentlemen diplomacy but aggressive and offensive external affairs policy is the crying need of the hour. Cyber war is already on. All barriers and boundaries stand dissolved. No space is impregnable or inaccessible in the present times. We have to gear up for countering and foiling the nternational or unintentional follies and also the attempted misadventures of the rival and inimical forces. If China can develop the hacking technology to steal other’s defence secrets to browbeat and overpower the neighbours, why can’t we do the same in self defence and unleash the counter-attack in case of emergency.
Yours etc….
