SRINAGAR, Dec 18: The children’s park in Bihama area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has been incomplete for over four years, leaving residents frustrated as they had hoped it would provide a much-needed recreational space for their children.
Locals say work on the much-anticipated public park, spread across 10 kanals of land, started four years ago but has progressed at a snail’s pace. The delay has distressed residents, who were initially overjoyed by the park’s announcement.
“Nearly four years ago, it was announced that a children’s park would be developed here. We were happy when we heard about it. However, we are now worried because the project has been delayed, and nothing substantial has been done so far,” said Javeed Ahmad Makdoomi, a local resident. He urged the administration to address the issue.
Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Ganderbal, Asif Mirza Beigh, acknowledged the delay, citing technical issues and funding challenges as the primary reasons. “Last year, funds were not released, but this year, we have received the required funds. So far, only 20% of the expenditure has been made. We have resolved all the issues and directed the contractor to expedite the work,” he said.
Beigh added that the park will feature a playing area for children and viewpoints for visitors. “Hopefully, it will be completed soon,” he said.
