Child crushed to death by rashly driven Thar

JAMMU, Aug 17: An eight-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a rashly driven Thar vehicle at Gharota area this evening.

A police official said the victim, identified as Harsh Singh, son of Ramesh Singh of Tersha Tallab, Aamb Gharota, was hit near his house by the vehicle at around 6:30 pm.
He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Government Medical College Jammu, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, he said.
According to him, the Thar driver, identified as Rakesh Sharma of Dharam Khoo, Tehsil Bhalwal, has been arrested and booked in case FIR number 79/2025 registered at Police Station Gharota under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further investigation has been taken up.
The police official said that the body of the child has also been shifted to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Earlier, the family members of the deceased child gathered outside Gharota Police Station and resorted to sloganeering, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
They claimed that the accused individual has a history of rash driving and involvement in crimes.
According to them, some sharp weapons were also recovered from his vehicle today.
Police, however, didn’t share any detail related to the recovery of weapons from his vehicle.
