Leh, Jan 31 : In order to take up the current issues between civil and Army in Leh district, the Chief of Staff, 14 Corps Maj. Gen. Sanjay Kulkarnee called on the CEC LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar today and had a detailed deliberation.
During the meeting, CEC put forth certain important issues that are to be dealt at Army level and important among them was the issue of regularization of local casual labours working in Army Petroleum Depot for more than 20 years who are mostly women from poor families.
CEC urged Maj Gen Kulkarnee to sort out exceptional ways to make them regular employees because they have no other means of livelihood than their existing jobs. Spalbar asked Army to take up the project of making the road from Leh Petrol Pump to TCP a four lane road going by the suitability of time and situation.
CEC urged Chief of Staff to strongly recommend to the GoI for early approval to tunnel at Khardong-la-pass for which the LAHDC has already submitted the proposal. He also urged Army to issue NOC for opening the Siachen belt up to Gonbo for foreign tourists. Similarly, Spalbar urged Army to send recommendation for construction of an all weather road through Parang la and proposal for the same is already submitted with GoI.
Maj. Gen. asked for allotment of additional land to Army for stationing of troops at Leh, Karu, Kairey and Partapur that would come around 21000 acres and said they will submit a proposal for the same.
