Chib orders suspension of 2 NOs, lodging of FIR against 4 MRs

JAMMU, June 11: The Government Medical College Hospital administration was caught unawares on Monday when Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib spotted four medical representatives along with two Nursing Orderlies (NOs) indulging with office record in one of the rooms of Head of the Department, Orthopaedics.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, the Minister took strong exception to the blatant indiscipline and unauthorized entry of representatives of pharmaceutical companies and ordered immediate suspension of the Nursing Orderlies. He also issued instructions to the Medical Superintendent for lodging FIR against the medical representatives.
“This is beginning of breaking the nexus that is unfortunately prevalent in the hospitals. Such unethical practices badly impact the hospital functioning and jeopradise the patient welfare”, the Minister said, asserting that this practice will be brought to end and stern action taken against those facilitating this.
Mr Chib warned the staff, particularly those at the junior levels, to desist from such anti-patient activities or be prepared for stringent action. He sought the cooperation of the people, patients and their attendants, to maintain vigil on such elements and inform the concerned immediately so that this menace is checked effectively. He said instructions have been issued to heads of all the units and hospitals to stop this practice forthwith and take action when the presence of unauthorized elements is brought to their notice. He also asked the drug companies to refrain from such malpractices otherwise strict action under law would be taken against them.
The suspended nursing orderlies have been identified as Ravinder Kumar and Devi Dayal while the medical representative against whom lodging of FIR was ordered are Akash Gupta and Varun Sharma from CIPLA, Yaiti from Himalaya Drugs and Sameer from Wambury Ltd.
Earlier, the Minister conducted a surprise check of Dental College, Jammu and went round various units.
He visited the Drug and Materials store and inspected the availability of medicines besides checking the status of supply position in the register. He also visited oral medicine and radiology, orthodontics, prothodontics and other units.
“Availability of faculty and adequate diagnostic are key components of healthcare”, he maintained.
Chib also expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of progress on the construction of Dental College and asked the executing agency, JKPCC to improve its working for early completion of the building.
