RAMBAN, May 29: Former MLA and senior Congress leader, Ashok Kumar has demanded the J&K administration to check air pollution in Ramban district due to widening work of National Highway (NH).
He urged upon the Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT, district administration of Ramban and Air Pollution Control Board to control the Air pollution in the form of heavy dust which measures about 5-25 microns in the entire stretch from Nashri to Banihal on the National Highway-44.
“The dust generated from widening work of the NH has affected dozens of peripheral towns inhabited by thousands of population and can be a threat as it can cause many respiratory diseases. As the result of mismanagement and corruption nexus by the concerned companies and agencies,” the Congress leader said, adding, the process of four -laning of Highway has to be completed but not on the cost of the lives of the people.
The former MLA demanded that there should be black topping for two lane road and after the completion of that work on remaining two lanes should be started. This is the only way by which this problem can be solved at this juncture. He also stressed upon the Government to have a check on the repeated landslides between Nashri and Banihal.
