JAMMU, Apr 22: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed the Finance Minister to instruct the Commercial Tax Department to accept both manual as well as e-returns for the 4th quarter of 2013-14 ending 31-03-2014.
The appeal was made during an emergency meeting, held today under the chairmanship of Chamber president Y V Sharma.
Members present in the meeting expressed that as per information received from different quarters including business as well as professionals, there are many errors cropping up at the time of uploading of e-returns. Though the Commercial Tax Department has taken the assistance of the experts of TCS Department, the templates have not been updated and the dealers as well as the professionals are helpless to file the returns electronically, they explained.
As per the professionals who met the Chamber team, the Commercial Tax Department was working on the pattern of Income Tax Department which has made e-filling mandatory but after taking 3-4 years to make it fully applicable. IT Department had also accepted e-returns as well as manual returns for at least 3 years after e-filing came into existence, the members said.
Chamber once again appealed to the Finance Minister to postpone the e-filing of returns and instruct the Commercial Tax department to accept both manual as well as e-returns at least for the 4th quarters of 2013-2014 ending 31-03-2014.
Prominent among those who were present in the meeting include Sham Lal Langer, senior vice-president; Arun Gupta, secretary general; Deepak Aggarwal, secretary and Bharat Bhushan Gupta, treasurer.
