JAMMU, Nov 28: Former Union Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has deplored the controversial statements of Dr Farooq Abdullah challenging authority of India over Jammu and Kashmir but observed that the old politician should not be taken much seriously as some such likes have developed the habit of changing colours like the weather.
“It appears that the NC leader is eying over the impending bye elections to the two Lok Sabha seats of Srinagar and Anantnag and intends to have his pound of flesh out of the ongoing unrest created in the Valley by the agents of the handlers of cross border terror and secessionism,” Prof Gupta said in a statement, issued here today..
However, Prof Gupta cautioned the authorities to keep close watch on the activities of such dubious characters in the quite sensitive areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda etc which remained by and large peaceful during recent turmoil in Kashmir. The highly contentious utterances must be taken note to maintain peace and tranquility, he added.
Prof Gupta castigated those in and outside mainstream who term this State as a dispute. He asserted that legally and constitutionally the entire State of J&K is an integral part of India. “Pakistan has no locus standi. Its position is only that of an aggressor and usurper. It has not vacated the illegally held areas of the State even after the UN Resolution of 1949, and has raised massive structures to benefit Pakistan at the cost of local people including those of historic city of Mirpur and hundreds of adjoining villages which have been submerged under Mangla Dam waters,” he said.
Prof Gupta also made a poser to the NC veteran that why he and his colleagues could not secure when they were in authority for what they are harping now. “And moreover, is it not a fact that Dr Farooq himself had been shouting that Laton Ke Bhoot Baton Se Nahin Mante,” Prof Gupta recalled.
