SAMBA, July 18: As per directions and schedule by the National Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Samba conducted third Undertrial Review Committee meeting for the year 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman DLSA, Samba, Ravinder Nath Wattal, with the members of Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) Samba.
In the meeting, the committee reviewed cases of eligible UTPs/Prisoners shortlisted by the Secretary, DLSA Samba for consideration. The committee considered eight cases of UTPs/Prisoners out of which one case was recommended for release.
The meeting was attended by Sandeep Singh Sen, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Samba; Gurpreet Singh, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Samba; Virinder Singh Manhas, Senior Superintendent of Police Samba; Nisha Rani, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Suman Bhagat, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Samba.
Besides these, Veerinder Bhat Sr Superintendent, Central Jail Kotbhalwal; Chhabil Singh, Superintendent, District Jail Kathua and Dharminder Singh, Superintendent District Jail Amphala, Jammu joined the meeting through virtual mode.
NLSA had launched schedule for conducting UTRC meetings for the year 2025. The main objective of launching this schedule is to enhance the efficacy and impact of the UTRC meetings fixed quarterly for the year 2025.
