New Delhi, July 30: The Centre set in motion plans to build the 1,856 MW Sawalkote Hydro Project on Chenab river in Jammu region today.
Tenders were invited for the project, which is expected to add to the challenges being faced by Pakistan following suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
The new project will come up near Sidhu village in Ramban district.
Though conceived in the 1960s, this project, along with several others, had been in the freezer.
